St.Hilarion - elevation 725m (2379 ft)
St. Hilarion with its 13th-century Crusader Castle - for a comprehensive history see Hans
the castle in Walt Disney's 1937 film of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". An entrance fee for
the castle must be paid if you wish to achieve the summit!
A view from our former apartment in upper Kyrenia, the top photo and photo below being a
telephoto shot from the same position.
St. Hilarion takes on a fairy-tale and mystical air (or should that be mistical?)
The mountain dominates the skyline above picturesque Kyrenia Old Harbour
St. Hilarion to the left, with Karaman (Karmi) in the middle distance, on the lower slopes of
the Besparmak (Pendadhaktylos or Five Fingers) Range.
18 members of Lincoln Ramblers Club setting off for St. Hilarion on a dismal February day from the
Halfway House Restaurant near Karaman (Karmi), watched by restaurant owner Mehmet.
Respite from the rain inside Karmi Church, with an interesting talk on the history of its Byzantine
icons and that of the village's history. The church warden is also the village muhtar (headman).
The Lincoln Ramblers ascending the zig-zags of the Orange Route (the path gets narrower and of
more interest higher up!) - the summit and castle appear at top left.
