            Buffavento - elevation 954m (3130 ft)

Buffavento (meaning 'Defier of Winds') is the second highest summit in the Besparmak
(Pendadhaktylos or Five Fingers) Range. Besparmak mountain itself rises in the distance.

Buffavento Castle sits at the summit, the highest of the three Crusader Castles in the Five Fingers
Range. For a comprehensive history see Hans Doeleman's excellent website  www.allcrusades.com

All these views are looking south-east towards the mountain, with the massive cliff face providing an
obstacle to any walking ascent from the north side. The approach to the 700 rocky steps leading up to
the castle and summit is from the south side of the mountain. This is accessed via the track which
starts near the Buffavento Restaurant, situated at the top of the mountain pass on the road between
            Kyrenia and Ercan Airport.
